About Camp Wolverine

CAMP WOLVERINE is located along the lake from which it gets its name. Lake Wolverine is a part of the Cleveland Creek watershed, a tributary of the White River, and is completely surrounded by Owasippe’s boundaries.  It is reported to be the only watershed in the Midwest where this occurs.  The Gus Kopp Dam on Cleveland Creek forms Lake Wolverine, creating a scenic place to camp.  Scouts enjoy this beautiful lake, where fishing, kayaking, rowing and canoeing opportunities abound.  The lake’s highly protected ecosystem, on whose waters no gas engines are allowed, offer peaceful serenity along with exciting fun for every camper.

WOLVERINE has 23 campsites located along Lake Wolverine’s attractive shoreline or on the surrounding hills.  Most sites are set apart from one another, creating a more private experience and allowing room to stretch.  Sites have running water, flush toilets and showers (sanitary units may be shared by two sites). Wall tents, platforms and cots are available or you may choose to use your own tents.

Dining

THE SITE LOCATIONS are conducive to troop camping, building on the patrol method.

MEAL OPTIONS: Troops can choose "Hot Pack" meal service, where each meal is delivered to your site fully cooked and ready to serve or troops can choose to eat meals in our Dining Tent.

PROGRAM*

Camp Wolverine offers traditional as well as diverse program opportunities, (STEM) such as Digital Technology, Nuclear Science, Chemistry and many more. Traditional program areas include Aquatics, Scoutcraft, Nature/Econ, Handicraft, Ranges & Targets, and Pioneer New Scout program. *Some merit badges and/or special programs may be rotated out and new ones added each summer in order to offer new opportunities for returning Scouts. Certain Merit Badges require completion of some requirements before arrival at camp

PROGRAM*

FLINTLOCK VILLAGE in Camp Wolverine offers a print shop where Scouts learn how type setting is done and how the printing press works. The Village also has an authentic metal forge where one can work on Metalwork Merit Badge. This is also home to craft village where Basketry MB, Leatherwork, Pulp and Paper, Textiles and Woodcarving are offered (Click on any photo on left to enlarge)

High Adventure

CHALLENGING PROGRAM* is happening across the 4800 acres of Owasippe. Scouts at Blackhawk can catch the shuttle buses (seen below) that will take them to Camp Blackhawk, Reneker Family Camp, Flintlock Village, ATV Program Center, Diamond “O” Ranch, Charles Nagle C.O.P.E. Base, Steve Fossett Sailing Base, Administration Center Complex, Trading Post and E. Urner Goodman Owasippe Museum and back to Wolverine.
